Developers, authors, publishers, and internet service providers can license Open Transport from Apple, for redistribution as a component of their product or service offering, made available to end-users. The information below describes how this process works.
End-users interested in distributing Open Transport within their organization should contact their Apple or Claris representative for information on the ClarisPLUS Volume Licensing program.
All potential licensees - both redistribution and volume license candidates - should remember that beginning with System 7.5.3, Open Transport is included as a standard part of Mac OS system software, and that Open Transport supports System 7.1 and System 7.5.3 or greater.
How to license Open Transport for redistribution:
-------------------------------------------------
A potential licensee first subscribes to the Mac OS SDK. This contains both the Open Transport software developer's kit (OT SDK) and the Open Transport run time libraries. Once a license request is approved, the Mac OS SDK will be the source of the software components to be distributed by the Licensee.
Next, the potential licensee develops or has developed one or more Open Transport-ready or Open Transport-enhanced Mac OS software applications, or they develop a product (such as a book, magazine, guide, etc.) or service offering (such as an Internet Service Provider) which could be enhanced by an OT software bundle.
Next, the potential licensee fills out a copy of the "APPLE COMPUTER, INC.
OPEN TRANSPORT QUESTIONNAIRE License Request Form". An electronic copy of this form can be found in the OT SDK, as well as posted on various Internet-based information sites. Once completed, the form is sent to Apple Software Licensing by email, mail, or fax.
Software Licensing will review the request for completeness, and capture the contact information we need for administrative and evangelism support. They will return to the Licensee a copy of the appropriate "Open Transport License Addendum". This document extends the Software Distribution Agreement already included on the Mac OS SDK to cover Open Transport.
Finally, the Licensee signs and returns a copy of the "Open Transport License Addendum" to Apple Software Licensing for our files.
If at any time in the future the Licensee wants to ship or bundle Open Transport with additional product(s), an additional "APPLE COMPUTER, INC.
OPEN TRANSPORT QUESTIONNAIRE License Request Form" must be completed and registered with Software Licensing.
Each year, the Licensee must file a report of the total number of Open Trasnport licenses they have distributed in that year.
